


The veterinary technician is an integral part of the veterinary health care system. We are staffed with many well trained and certified veterinary technicians. Three of our head technicians are specialty trained in emergency and critical care and certified as Veterinary Technician Specialists (VTS).
The veterinary technician who becomes a VTS in Emergency and Critical Care demonstrates superior knowledge in the care and management of the emergent and/or critically ill patient. This certification promotes professionalism and excellence in emergency and critical care nursing. These are highly qualified individuals who have gone through extensive training and a higher level credentialing process.

Dr. Brown received her veterinary degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS in 1999. She then began a one year rotating surgical and medical internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Upon completion of her internship she was accepted into the Avian and Exotic pet residency program at the AMC. She completed her residency in 2003 and remained on staff teaching interns, residents and technicians until 2005 when she accepted a position at Red Bank Veterinary Hospital to create and develop their Avian and Exotics Department. In 2008 she joined the staff at OSVS and in the summer of 2009 began seeing appointments at BSVES every other Wednesday. Dr. Brown has many pets of her own as well as transient pets that she fosters. For birds she has two Yellow-Collared Miniature Macaws, a Dusky Conure, Scarlet Macaw, and a Mealy Amazon. She also has a New England box turtle and two Chihuahuas named Guppy and Dory. The house is always noisy and full of activity – just the way she likes it! |

Dr. Coronado completed his veterinary degree at the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. He then completed an internship at Purdue University in 1995. He obtained his residency training in small animal surgery at the Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, where he received the Resident of the Year Award in 1997, 1998, and 1999. He also received the Mark Bloomberg Resident Research Award for his work on the preservation of bone allografts in cats. He completed a master’s degree in 2000, and then worked as the staff neurosurgeon at the University of Wisconsin until joining the staff at Ocean State Veterinary Specialists in 2002 (and BSVES in 2007). He is a member of the Society of Veterinary Soft Tissue Surgery, Veterinary Wound Management Society, and Veterinary Cancer Society. Dr. Coronado, who was recently married, enjoys bicycling, golf, and music. He is a huge football fan and follows all Texas A&M sports. |

Dr. Gaul is originally from Buffalo, NY and received a degree in Chemistry from Wagner College in NYC. Upon finishing her clinical training at the University of Pennsylvania and graduating from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, she completed an internship at NYC Veterinary Specialists in New York City. Dr. Gaul’s interests include emergency medicine, critical care and surgery. She divides her time between OSVS and BSVES. Dr. Gaul enjoys spending her free time with her husband and two dogs. She also enjoys camping, hiking, cooking, and most of all, eating. |

Dr. Houssen graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College in Prince Edward Island, Canada. She then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the California Animal Hospital in Los Angeles, CA. She joined the staff at BSVES and OSVS this past fall. Dr. Houssen has a special interest in small animal internal medicine and emergency and critical care. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, being outdoors, listening to live music, and spending time with her two cats. |

Dr. Klocke is originally from the Philadelphia area. She received her undergraduate degree in biochemistry from Georgetown University before attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine. After graduating she pursued an internship at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital, located just outside Boston. She has a special interest in internal medicine and emergency surgery and would like to pursue a certification in acupuncture in the future. Dr. Klocke divides her time between OSVS and BSVES. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her cat, Thomas, and her Australian Cattle Dog mix, Pandora, as well as long walks on the beach and cooking with/for friends. |

Dr. Math began her path to veterinary medicine by initially pursuing a Master's Degree in human medicine and research at Harvard Medical School. During that time, however, she decided she would much rather enter the field of veterinary medicine. In 2002, she received her veterinary degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. She went on to do her internship at OSVS in 2003 and has been there since July of 2009 when she joined the staff at BSVES. When not at work, Dr. Math can be found hiking the hills of MA and NH or updating her 1970's home. She also has a very spoiled feline at home who demands much of her attention.

Dr. Ralphs graduated from the Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine in 1998. He then continued his training with a general internship at the Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, CT and a surgical internship at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in Houston, TX. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Minnesota. Following his residency, Dr. Ralphs was in practice for three years at Pittsburgh Veterinary Specialists in Pittsburgh, PA. He is also certified in the tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) procedure. On the days when he is not at work, Dr. Ralphs enjoys spending time with his wife and two kids exploring the outdoor pursuits in the area. They are glad to be back in the Northeast where they can see their family and friends more often. |

Dr. Sheldahl attended college at the University of Oregon, where she majored in biology. She stayed to pursue a Master’s degree in animal behavior. She decided to pursue veterinary medicine after her own dog, Tucker, lost a long battle with recurrent pneumonia. She graduated from Tufts Veterinary School in 2008 where she received the Jeff Proulx Memorial Award for outstanding achievement in veterinary studies. She completed her internship at the New England Animal Medical Center before starting as an emergency doctor at OSVS in August 2009. She began working at BSVES as well not long after. Dr. Sheldahl’s hobbies include photography, trying to tire out her Border Collie mix, Stella, and just about anything outdoors (especially backpacking). |
Dr. Silk attended North Carolina State University for her Zoology and Veterinary Medicine degrees. She then completed an internship at the Greenbriar Veterinary Emergency Center in Virginia Beach. Dr. Silk has been with OSVS for five years and recently began working over here at BSVES as well. In addition to emergency medicine, her veterinary interests include ophthalmology and internal medicine. Dr. Silk is a huge football fan and also enjoys traveling, reading, and white water rafting.

Dr. Sweet completed his veterinary degree at the University of Pennsylvania of Veterinary Medicine in 1989 and stayed on to complete an internship. He completed his small animal surgery residency training at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1994. He spent a year at Washington State University as a clinical instructor in small animal surgery, and then two years as an Assistant Professor of Small Animal Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sweet was the Chief of Surgery at the Veterinary Referral Center in New Jersey before joining the staff of OSVS in 2003 (and BSVES in 2007). His clinical interests include pain management, soft tissue surgery, and oncologic surgery including reconstruction techniques. His personal interests include tai chi, reading, and enjoying the company of his wife and two children. |

Dr. Thomas graduated from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. She then went on to do an internship at VCA South Shore in Weymouth, MA before joining the staff at OSVS and BSVES in August of 2008. When not at work, Dr. Thomas enjoys horseback riding, reading, and traveling. |
