Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services (BSVES) is located in Swansea, Massachusetts in the beautiful southeastern Massachusetts area and is very close to the educational, cultural and recreational offerings of Cape Cod, Boston, and Providence. Our 7000-square-foot hospital was designed to support emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine and surgery. This well-equipped hospital boasts a state-of-the-art ICU, an extensive in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy and a full range of surgical equipment. Health Insurance
Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services (BSVES) will pay 100% of the monthly premium of an individual plan for eligible employees. The remaining premium, if applicable, will be deducted before taxes through a payroll deduction. Full-time employees who are enrolled in the plan are entitled to deductible reimbursement up to $3,000 per year.

Dental Insurance
We offer high-quality dental insurance through Delta Dental.

Cafeteria 125 Plan
BSVES has a Cafeteria 125 plan which allows employee health and dental deductions to be taken out on a pre-taxed basis. This assists the employees with reducing their tax liability.

Life Insurance
All employees regularly scheduled between 36-40 hours a week will receive a hospital paid $5,000 life insurance policy which also includes $5,000 for accidental death and dismemberment.

Flexible Spending Accounts
A Flexible Spending Account (FSA) is a pretax benefit that allows eligible employees the ability to set aside a specific pretax dollar amount to pay for out-of-pocket medical/dental and dependent care expenses resulting in lower taxes for the employee.

Accidental and Short Term Disability Insurance
Employees working 30 hours, or more, are eligible to buy supplemental benefits consisting of accident or short-term disability. This is an additional way to protect your income during your employment. Both plans are portable should you leave your employment.

401k
BSVES offers a 401K plan to all employees following one year of full-time employment. Part-time employees working at least 1000 hours in a calendar year are also eligible after one year of employment. BSVES will match employee contributions up to 4%.

Gym Membership
Employees who are scheduled to work at least three shifts per week are eligible to sign up for a discounted membership to Healthtrax Fitness and Wellness Center near our sister hospital (Ocean State Veterinary Specialists) in East Greenwich, RI.

Continuing Education
Both formal and “on the job” continuing education is a regular part of BSVES. An annual continuing education allowance is granted to employees who are credentialed veterinary technicians. BSVES will pay for non-credentialed veterinary technician employees to take the VTNE one time.

Uniform Allowance
BSVES provides a uniform allowance for all support staff.

Rabies Vaccination Assistance Program
BSVES requires all staff to be vaccinated against rabies and offers payment assistance for non-vaccinated employees.

Generous Pet Discount Policy
BSVES offers a generous discount for employee pets.

Work/Life Balance
At BSVES, we understand the importance of a healthy work-life balance, and having tenured employees is very important to us. Full-time employees are granted two weeks of vacation during their first 5 years of employment. Employees can start using vacation time 90 days after being hired.
Once an employee has been with BSVES for five years, they are granted a third week of vacation. After ten years, a fourth week will be earned. Paid time off is also granted for part-time employees, although it is accrued at a different rate. BSVES also offers paid sick time and holiday pay.

Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services (BSVES) is looking for entry-level technician assistants to join a talented and fun group of veterinary professionals who truly care about their patients and clients. BSVES is a 24-hour veterinary emergency hospital and referral center for internal medicine and surgery located in Swansea, MA. Our technician assistants come from many avenues. Prior experience might include work in an animal-related field, completion of an animal care certificate or college work in animal science or other sciences, experience in a veterinary practice, or even a history of being a dedicated pet-owner. This is also a great first clinical experience for students in pre-veterinary studies or veterinary technology programs.

Technician assistants perform a vital role in helping our veterinarians and technicians by attending to the daily needs of the patients under their care, such as feeding, providing water, bathing, walking and exercising them. Technician assistants clean and disinfect the hospital, stock supplies, maintain equipment, sterilize surgical instruments and learn how to setup equipment for veterinarians so they can perform procedures.

Bay State Veterinary Emergency Services is seeking a highly qualified receptionist to join our amazing team.

A day in the life of a veterinary receptionist can be both challenging and rewarding. A typical day often includes greeting clients and making them feel welcome, assisting clients in the completion of paperwork and entering information into our veterinary practice management software. Receptionists also schedule appointments, process invoices, deposits and payments. Receptionists answer a lot of telephone calls and must take concise and accurate messages and pass them along to the appropriate person quickly and efficiently. Receptionists answer questions and solve problems.

Clients whose pet is experiencing a medical emergency could arrive at the hospital in a variety of emotional states. As the face of our hospital, our receptionists are expected to always be positive, exhibit warmth and empathy and always act with kindness and compassion. Each day has periods of peak volume when your ability to multi-task and prioritize will be tested. Did we mention the telephones never stop ringing?

So, if your passion is creating a great customer service experience and you enjoy being an integral part of a high performing team, this could be the job for you. The successful candidate will have at least 1-2 years of customer service experience. They must have empathy, a great attention to detail, excellent communication skills, be well-organized, productive, have a commitment to lifelong learning and a sense of humor. They must not be afraid of pets or learning new computer software.

This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week. As a 24/7/365 hospital, we require participation in a work schedule that typically includes two daytime shifts, two evening shifts as well as a weekend shift. Team members also cover 4 holiday shifts each year.
